Namur Folklore and traditions
These events have certainly won acclaim, but the cultural life of the province harbours many other gems besides.
Such as the bustling Festival of Wallonia in Namur and elsewhere, the many craft markets, the bonfires, and the folk groups and events, including the traditional marches of the Entre-Sambre-et-Meuse region, whose roots date back to the Napoleonic era. Namur is also the world capital of Choral Singing.
In 2021, the UNESCO registered Namur stilt jousting on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
L’EuropĂ©ade
In 2016, Namur was honoured to host the most important popular culture event in Europe. Over a 5-day period, a total of 4.000-6.000 Europeans come together to experience and share in the art and popular traditions of their respective regions.
